Operation Christmas Child Our church deadline for filled boxes to be brought to the church is this Sunday, November 13. On November 20, we will pray and have our "box brigade" at the end of the service. Postage is $10 per box, and checks may be made out to the church for that purpose. Learn more about OCC and how to pack a shoebox by visiting the website here. THE LORD'S DAY (11/13):
God has a purpose for His law during the reign of grace. Ever since the Reformation restored the Gospel of God’s free grace as the way of salvation, Christians have debated just how the commands of the Mosaic Law should be applied in light of that Gospel. Since the Law is fundamentally the revelation of God’s holy will, how and to what extent should it inform the civil code? What authority does the Law have over personal morality and ethics? While Luther, Zwingli, and Calvin arrived at separate conclusions on these two “uses of the Law,” the one area that the Reformers found broad agreement on was this: that God’s Law brings men to a knowledge of their sins. We explore that purpose under the following three assertions:

See you in church! Grace and peace, Pastor Greg GREETINGS, EVERYONE, from the campus of SOUTHWEST BAPTIST UNIVERSITY, my alma mater!
This weekend is homecoming at SBU, one of your Missouri Baptist colleges. A portion of our church's cooperative giving goes to help fund Southwest Baptist University, Hannibal-Lagrange University, and Missouri Baptist University. Please take this opportunity to pray for the students, faculty, staff, and administration of these and other Christian schools throughout our state, that they would remain faithful to Lord, to His word, and to their Christ-centered mission. ***DISASTER RELIEF*** Teams from Missouri are currently being formed and called out to serve southwest Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. The devastation is massive, and your help is needed. You must be at least 18 to go on a disaster relief call-out. You do not need prior certification or experience to serve, although those are helpful. Teams should be ready to do various tasks, including operating mass feeding units (meal preparation) and mobile shower units. Teams for cleanup and mud-out will be forming later. If you are interested in serving, please contact our associational Director of Missions, Bro. Roger Brumley at 816-233-2504 or by email at dom.sjba@gmail.com TO GIVE TO DISASTER RELIEF electronically, visit modr.org/give. Checks coming to the church marked "Disaster Relief" will be forwarded to MBDR for Hurricane Ian relief. Operation Christmas Child is underway. If you would like to participate in this ministry, please visit the table in the narthex for more information, or contact Mary Morrow. THE LORD'S DAY (10/9):
Question 37: What is justification? Answer: Justification is an act of God’s free grace, by which he pardons all our sins, and accepts us as righteous in his sight, only for the righteousness of Christ imputed to us, and received by faith alone. Scripture: Romans 3:24; 5:19; Ephesians 1:7; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 3:9; Galatians 2:16. Question 38: What is adoption? Scripture: 1 John 3:1; John 1:12; Romans 8:16, 17. Question 39: What is sanctification? Answer: Sanctification is the work of God’s free grace by which we are renewed in the whole person after the image of God, and are enabled more and more to die unto sin, and live unto righteousness. Scripture: 2 Thessalonians 2:13; Ephesians 4:23, 24; Romans 6:11. Source: https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/a-baptist-catechism

See you in church! Grace and peace, Pastor Greg GREETINGS, EVERYONE! Happy Saturday! The turn of seasons is finally here, it seems, and we are thankful for cooler days and evenings. Especially when it comes to moving, which is a segue to a particular need today.
We have someone moving to Maysville from Warsaw, MO, who has requested some help in unloading her U-Haul this evening (Saturday). The time will be around 7 or 8 pm. We have 3 or 4 helping, but could use another 2 or 3 strong hands on deck as we are not sure what items she has to unload. The house is two-bedroom, and it is just one person, a nice Baptist lady of retirement age or so. If you are available to help, please let me know by texting me at 479-238-3772. I will give you details on the location then (it is a house between Bartlett Park and the water tower). MMO: The Mission/Vision team has set the goal for $1500 for the Rheubin L. South Missouri Missions Offering. So far we have received $910. Well done, so far, church. We have one more Sunday to officially receive the offering. Pray about what the Lord would have you give. You can read more about it at this link. Operation Christmas Child is fast approaching. If you would like to participate, please visit the table in the narthex for more information. Question 34: How does the Spirit apply to us the redemption purchased by Christ? Answer: The Spirit applies to us the redemption purchased by Christ, by working faith in us, and thereby uniting us to Christ in our effectual calling. Scripture: 1 John 5:1; Philippians 1:29; Ephesians 2:8; Acts 16:14; 18:27; John 3:8; 6:64f. MONDAY (9/26)

to First, bcc: me GREETINGS, EVERYONE! Thanks to all who came out last Sunday evening for the family movie night, "American Underdog." A special thanks to Pastor Kyle for setup and execution and to Marsha Smith for providing popcorn. Twenty-two were in attendance. I was unable to be present as I had gone to KC right after church to attend a retirement luncheon for one of the first pastors I served with in the ministry, Rev. Larry Heenan. Larry retired after 28 years as pastor of Spring Valley Baptist in Raytown, and a total of 35 years in the ministry. We served together 1994-1998. It was good to see him and his family, as well as so many other familiar faces. Sweet time of remembering. Later that night, I picked up Lorrie and our daughters from KCI after a short trip to California for a friend's mother's funeral. MMO: This Sunday marks the beginning of the Rheubin L. South Missouri Missions Offering emphasis. The Mission/Vision team has set the goal for $1500. We will receive the offering throughout the month of September. You can read more about it at this link. Weed Eating on East Bank: We need a few hands to trim the east bank of the lower parking lot this week in preparation for Country Harvest. We need to get it done by Thursday, Sept. 8. This embankment is partially covered with wildflowers, so we try to trim the grass and weeds without killing the flowers. If you have a trimmer and would be willing to help out, please let me know. Thanks! THE LORD'S DAY (9/4):
These questions and answers pertain to the threefold office of the Messiah, that of prophet, priest, and king. We consider them separately, but they actually cannot be separated anymore than the Triune God Himself could be. Nevertheless, for study purposes, we look at each of them individually, with the office of Prophet being first. Question 27: What offices does Christ perform as our Redeemer? Answer: Christ, as our Redeemer, performs the offices of a prophet, of a priest, and of a king, both in His condition of humiliation and exaltation. Scripture: Acts 3:22; Hebrews 5:6; Psalm 2:6. Question 28: How does Christ perform the office of a prophet? Answer: Christ performs the office of a prophet, in revealing to us, by his Word and Spirit, the will of God for our salvation. Scripture: John 1:18; 14:26; 15:15. MONDAY (9/5)
WEDNESDAY (9/7)
THURSDAY (9/8)
FRIDAY (9/9)
NOTE: We need someone to pick up the trailer on Thursday from the St. Joseph Baptist Association office on Mitchell, across from MWSU entrance. Please let me know if you would be willing and able to do this, 479-238-3772. COMING UP:
ICYMI: Last Sunday's sermon audio "Another Sabbath Healing" Luke 14:1-6 Please visit our YouTube Channel to see the edited service video. FIGHTER VERSE: We are not currently reciting the Fighter Verses during the worship service, but I encourage you to do so in your Sunday School class and your Bible study group. Personally commit these verses to your heart, and I believe God will bless you as you do. This week's verse is John 3:16-17 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him." READ THROUGH THE BIBLE The Five-Day Bible Reading Plan is attached to this e-mail for your convenience. You may want to access additional resources to support your reading available at this website. BONUS #1: We will be singing the song "Let Us Delight in the Lord", an adaptation of Psalm 1 by Pastor Kyle Bridgman. We sang this a few Sundays ago, but you may want to refresh your memory in preparation for the Lord's Day tomorrow. Here you are singing it! BONUS #2: Cole and Sarah McCauley with Casa de Mi Padre in Guatemala will be at CrossPointe Community Church in St. Joe on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 6 pm. The McCauleys were with us last October to talk with us about this mission to help care for orphaned children. Cole and Sarah are both originally from St. Joseph. FYI: Due to a change in our family schedule, I will be taking my regular day off on Tuesdays each week rather than Mondays. My office days normally will be Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 9 am - 5 pm (later most days). Exceptions will be when I am attending associational and other out of town meetings, hospital and other visitation, and events representing the church. I keep my daily schedule on the marker board outside my study door for those who are interested. You can always reach me by calling my cell number, 479-238-3772. See you in church! Grace and peace, Pastor Greg GREETINGS, EVERYONE! Thanks to all of you who came out to pray at the school last Sunday evening. We had a really good turnout representing several area churches. Around forty folks total, with 16 from FBC, prayed for Maysville School, students, teachers, administrators, staff, board members, and those who fill in the gaps by substitute teaching or bus driving. Continued prayers are requested, especially for those who are new to the area or to the school. As a homeschool dad, I would also like to emphasize the need to pray for our students and families who choose, for a variety of reasons, to home educate. Also, pray for those students who may be enrolled in Christian or other private schools. Unique challenges accompany each situation. Pray for the provision of daily grace for daily needs for all those involved.
THE LORD'S DAY (8/28):
Answer: The only Redeemer of God’s elect is the Lord Jesus Christ, who, being the eternal Son of God, became man, and so was and continues to be God and man, in two distinct natures and one person, forever. Scripture: Galatians 3:13; 1 Timothy 2:5; 3:16; John 1:14; Romans 9:5; Colossians 2:9.
Answer: Christ, the Son of God became man by taking to himself a true body and a reasonable soul. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin Mary, and was born of her, yet without sin. Scripture: Hebrews 2:14; 4:14; 7:26; Matthew 26:38; Luke 2:52; John 1:14; 12:27; Luke 1:31, 35; 2:52; Colossians 2:9.
