GREETINGS, EVERYONE! As you prepare for the Lord's Day tomorrow, take a few moments to read through this update. On the traditional Christian calendar, this is Pentecost Sunday, commemorating the day when the Holy Spirit was poured out on the church in the fullness of power. Several of the Scriptures used in the service reflect that occasion. We rejoice that the risen and ascended Jesus sent the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, to be our comforter, counselor, and guide.

THE LORD'S DAY (6/5):
  • Bible Study for All Ages, 9:30 am. There is no better time than the present to join a Sunday morning Bible study. Age-graded classes from nursery through high school plus four non-age graded classes for adults are available.
  • Worship Together at 10:40 in the Sanctuary. Sermon subject will be "Living Coram Deo" from Luke 12:1-12, in which Jesus exhorts His disciples against hypocrisy, against the fear of man, and against denying Christ. Living "coram Deo" ("in the presence of God") means, rather, living with transparency, in the fear of God, and acknowledging Christ before men.
  • Noon, Carry-In Fellowship Meal. Plan on staying for lunch tomorrow as we share a meal together. Church provides table service and drinks, you bring everything else (main dishes, sides, salads, desserts). We will be recognizing new members at the conclusion of worship and giving them first place in line for the meal.
  • Member Meeting will immediately follow the fellowship meal, so we invite you to stay if you are able. This is where we conduct the normal business of the church, formally receive and dismiss members, and hear reports on the life and ministry of the church. We will also be considering the pastoral recommendation for alternative giving ("Plan B") that I sent out an email about earlier in the week.
  • Scriptures for Sunday.  Here are the Scriptures we will be reading that will shape our corporate worship. Take a few moments to read and meditate on them as you prepare for worship tomorrow. Click anywhere on the link to see a printable version of these passages on biblegateway.com
    • Call to Worship: Psalm 104:24-35
    • Old Testament: Genesis 11:1-9
    • New Testament: Acts 2:1-21
    • Assurance of Pardon: Psalm 103:8-12
    • Sermon Text: Luke 12:1-12
    • Benediction2 Corinthians 13:14

  • SBC Annual Meeting, Anaheim, CA. Lorrie and I will be leaving out for Anaheim on Wednesday night, June 8, and returning on Friday, June 17. We will participate in Crossover Anaheim, an outreach ministry event sponsored by the SBC, on Saturday, June 11, then we will attend the Conservative Baptist Network session on Sunday evening, June 12, with John MacArthur as the keynote speaker. The Pastors' Conference starts that same evening and goes through Monday. The Annual Meeting begins in earnest on Tuesday, June 14, and goes through Wednesday evening, June 15. Kyle and Sue plan to arrive a couple of days later and add some vacation time following the convention. Please pray for the work of the convention and especially for the presidential election on Tuesday afternoon. Tom Ascol is a candidate for president of the SBC this year, and I believe he is the best of the three who are announced. The SBC is in need of reformation spiritually and renovation structurally, and Tom has pledged his efforts toward those goals.
