Greetings, Church Family and Friends! As we begin to feel a little bit of fall in the air, take a moment to thank the God who gives all good gifts.
"We plow the fields and scatter the good seed on the land, but it is fed and watered by God's almighty hand;
He sends the snow in winter, the warmth to swell the grain, the breezes and the sunshine, and soft refreshing rain.
All good gifts around us are sent from heaven above; then thank the Lord, O thank the Lord for all His love."
-- M. Claudius, 1782; tr. Jane Montgomvery-Campbell, 1861

DIRECTORY PICTURES: It has been a number of years since we have had a pictorial directory. Because of digital capabilities, a lot of the fuss has been taken out of the process. We will be able to do the directories largely in house. Lindsay Jestes will be with us on Sunday, Sept. 24, and Sunday, Oct. 1, non - 2 pm, to take family and individual photos for the directory. She will share the digital photos with us for the directory, and you may also have the file of your pictures to print them off if you like. We will have sign-ups for general times for pictures.

NEW MINISTRY TEAMS BEING FORMED
Last week, I shared my desire to form three new teams this fall to help move our congregation to greater health, growth and biblical fidelity. They are:
  • Care Team: Making phone calls, writing cards and letters to absent members and attendees
  • Prayer Team: Targeted prayer for Kingdom growth and expansion, evangelism, missions
  • Share Team: Home visits for outreach to the community and reactivation of inactive members

Thanks to all those who have responded so far. We have six ladies who have indicated interest in the Care Team, one lady for the prayer team, and one man and one lady for the Share Team. That is a good start! Keep praying about how the Lord might have you serve.

Greetings, Church Family and Friends!
What a joy it was to gather last Sunday evening at Bartlett Park for our end of the summer picnic and worship in the park! The weather was excellent, the food was in abundance, and the fellowship was sweet! Thanks to all who helped in prepping and transporting the grill, cooking the burgers and dogs, arranging and serving the food, bringing and setting up games for the kids, etc. It is always something I look forward to, but it couldn't happen without you!

    • Question 35: What is effectual calling?
      • Answer: Effectual calling is the work of God’s Spirit, to convince us of our sin and misery, to enlighten our minds in the knowledge of Christ, to renew our wills, and thus persuade and enable us to embrace Jesus Christ, freely offered to us in the gospel.
      • Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:9; John 6:44, 45; 16:8-11; Acts 2:37; 26:18; Ezekiel 36:26; Romans 8:30; 1 Corinthians 1:24; 12:3.

      • Scripture: Romans 8:30-32; Galatians 3:26; 1 Corinthians 1:30; 6:11; Ephesians 1:5.

Greetings, Church Family and Friends!

As you prepare for the Lord's Day tomorrow, take a few moments to give the Lord thanks for the relatively mild temperatures we have had this summer. It is forecasted to heat up today and throughout the next week or so. It is our custom to open up the church on exceptionally hot days for those who need a place to cool off. If you know of someone who might be in that situation this week, please let them know that we are open daily.

Our association sponsored a Transitional Pastor Training on Tuesday and Wednesday, and I was privileged to attend. Gary Dean and Walter Thomack and 8 others also attended. Gary Mathes from Clay-Platte Baptist Association (formerly associate pastor at Green Valley Baptist Church) and Buddy Funk with Resound Network/Missouri Baptist Convention led the training. As I shared with our folks Wednesday evening, I don't have any plans to become a "transitional pastor" anytime soon, but I was encouraged to attend by our associational leadership. The training was outstanding. So much of it overlaps with church revitalization. The Resound Network works with both churches who are without pastors and churches who need some level of revitalization. I left personally refreshed and encouraged to reignite the revitalization process for us. We are in an excellent position as a church to undertake this work. You will be hearing more about this from me in the near future.

THE LORD'S DAY (8/20):
  • Bible Study for All Ages, 9:30 am. Nurser through Senior Adults, we have a group for you.
  • DISCOVER FBC, a 4-week class for those interested in becoming members of the church, will be finishing up with its final session during the Sunday School hour, 9:30 - 10:20 am. The class is highly recommended for all current and future members of FBC. The class covers the following subjects:
    • The Gospel
    • The Church: Its Meaning, Membership, and Ministry
    • First Baptist Church: Our History, Confession, Structure, and Affiliation
    • Spiritual Gifts: Finding Your Place of Service
  • Worship Together at 10:40 am in the Sanctuary.  Our sermon text will be Luke 24:36-53 on Jesus' Benediction and Ascension. After His resurrection, Jesus appeared several times to His disciples. Luke records that final meeting along with some of the most intriguing and compelling words to His followers. He essentially commands them to proclaim the message of the Gospel "to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem." This last paragraph of Luke's Gospel overlaps with the first paragraph of the book of Acts, which is Luke, Volume 2. It is my intention to lead us in studying Acts, beginning with an introductory sermon next week, Aug. 27.
  • Scriptures for Sunday.  Here are the Scriptures we will be reading that will shape our corporate worship. Take a few moments to read and meditate on them as you prepare for worship tomorrow. Click anywhere on the link to see a printable version of these passages on biblegateway.com

  • Baptist Catechism Questions 33-34 "On the Redemption Purchased By Christ"

      • Scripture: John 3:5, 6; Titus 3:5, 6.
    • Question 34: How does the Spirit apply to us the redemption purchased by Christ?
      • Answer: The Spirit applies to us the redemption purchased by Christ, by working faith in us, and thereby uniting us to Christ in our effectual calling.
      • Scripture: 1 John 5:1; Philippians 1:29; Ephesians 2:8; Acts 16:14; 18:27; John 3:8; 6:64f.
  • Member Meeting/Fellowship Meal Following Morning Worship.  The church will supply drinks and table service. You may bring main dishes, sides, salads, and desserts. All are invited to attend. **NOTE: We need a class or a group to serve as "hosts," setting out the food, table service, getting the drinks made, placing salt and pepper on tables, etc., as well as clean-up. Please e-mail or text me if you or your class would like to take your turn this time.
  • Prayer Walk at the School, 6 pm. We will gather outside of Maysville R1 school on the front lawn to pray for students, teachers, staff, administration and school board members. Greetings, Church Family and Friends!
We had a great time Wednesday evening hearing Kyle and Sue report on their trip to Israel.
Around 35 church members and people from the community gathered in the sanctuary to see slides and hear the narrative of the Bridgmans' 10 days in the Holy Land. Afterward, Kyle and Sue hosted us in the Fellowship Hall where Sue had a full Mediterranean appetizer smorgasbord for us to enjoy. It was amazing! Thanks to all who came out for it, and thanks to Kyle and Sue for putting it together. For those who weren't able to attend but who would like to see the pictures, contact Kyle for a private viewing. If there are enough who would like to see it, I'm sure they could be persuaded to do a second presentation in the future.

PRC BOTTLE REMINDER: We still have 15 bottles yet to be returned to the office. These are baby bottles with special slotted lids. If you have one, please return it (even if it is empty) so that we can get it back to the Pregnancy Resource Clinic. If you took your bottle to the PRC instead of bringing it to the church office, please let us know so that we can account for the bottle. Thanks for your cooperation!

THE LORD'S DAY (8/6):
  • Bible Study for All Ages, 9:30 am. Nursery through Senior Adults, we have a group for you.
  • Worship Together at 10:40 am in the Sanctuary.  Our sermon text will be Luke 24:1-12 on "The Empty Tomb: Jesus Is Alive." Joseph of Arimathea took Jesus’ body down from the cross, and he and Nicodemus (Jn. 19:39-40) buried Jesus in Joseph’s tomb. After the darkness of the sealed tomb where Jesus was laid, light dawned on the scene of the empty tomb. This scene is at once perplexing, frightening, ironic, and marvelous. Join us as we consider this scene and the various ones who were present at that time: the women, the angels, the apostles, and especially Peter and John.
  • Scriptures for Sunday.  Here are the Scriptures we will be reading that will shape our corporate worship. Take a few moments to read and meditate on them as you prepare for worship tomorrow. Click anywhere on the link to see a printable version of these passages on biblegateway.com
  • Call to Worship: Psalm 145:8-9, 14-21
  • Scripture Reading: Exodus 31:1-18
  • Assurance of Pardon: 1 Timothy 1:15
  • Sermon Text: Luke 24:1-12
  • Benediction: Numbers 6:24-26

  • Baptist Catechism Questions 27-30 "On the Threefold Office of Christ"
    • Question 27: What offices does Christ perform as our Redeemer?
      • Answer: Christ, as our Redeemer, performs the offices of a prophet, of a priest, and of a king, both in his condition of humiliation and exaltation.
      • Scripture: Acts 3:22; Hebrews 5:6; Psalm 2:6.
    • Question 28: How does Christ perform the office of a prophet?
      • Answer: Christ performs the office of a prophet, in revealing to us, by his Word and Spirit, the will of God for our salvation.
      • Scripture: John 1:18; 14:26; 15:15.
    • Question 29: How does Christ perform the office of a priest?
      • Answer: Christ performs the office of a priest by once offering himself as a sacrifice to satisfy divine justice, and to reconcile us to God; and by making continual intercession for us before God.
      • Scripture: 1 Peter 2:24; Hebrews 2: 17; 7:25; 9:28; Ephesians 5:2; Romans 8:34.
    • Question 30: How does Christ perform the office of a king?

Greetings, Church Family and Friends!
We are officially in the summer vacation season. Weekly attendance at Bible Study and Lord's Day worship services typically takes a little dip. That is expected. But going on vacation does not mean you take a break from worshiping with God's people wherever you are, if it is at all possible. Wherever you might be this summer on the Lord's Day, find a local, Bible-believing, Bible-teaching church to attend. It will be especially encouraging to a smaller congregation if you visit because they (like us) are likely experiencing a little "dip" in attendance. If the church you decide to attend while you are out of town has a printed bulletin, have the pastor or staff member sign it and bring it back home with you. I half-jokingly suggest that you bring your signed bulletin back to church with you. Many of you do just that during the summer and other times when you are gone, and I appreciate it! While it is not absolutely necessary to bring back a signed bulletin, I cannot emphasize enough just how important it is to maintain the holy habit of weekly worship attendance during the summer and throughout the year. Happy summer vacationing!

THE LORD'S DAY (6/4):
  • Bible Study for All Ages, 9:30 am. Nursery through Senior Adults, we have a group for you.
  • Worship Together at 10:40 in the Sanctuary. We will be in Luke 22:39-53 "Prayer and Betrayal in the Garden of Gethsemane." We can orient this passage around seven sayings in the garden:
    • First Saying: Jesus to His disciples, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation."
    • Second Saying: Jesus to His Father, "...if You are willing, take this cup from me; yet, not my will but yours be done"
    • Third Saying: Jesus to His disciples, "Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation."
    • Fourth Saying: Jesus to Judas,"...would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?"
    • Fifth Saying: Peter to Jesus, "Lord, shall we strike with the sword?" (cuts of Malchus' ear)
    • Sixth Saying: Jesus to Peter, "No more of this!" (response to Peter's action)
    • Seventh Saying: Jesus to the crowd, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs? When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness."

Scriptures for Sunday.  Here are the Scriptures we will be reading that will shape our corporate worship. Take a few moments to read and meditate on them as you prepare for worship tomorrow. Click anywhere on the link to see a printable version of these passages on biblegateway.com
  • Call to Worship: Psalm 8
  • Scripture Reading: Exodus 25:1-22
  • Assurance of Pardon: 1 Peter 3:18
  • Sermon Text: Luke 22:39-53
  • Benediction: 2 Corinthians 13:14

Baptist Catechism Questions are Questions 8-10 "On the Nature of God." For the entire catechism, follow this link.

  • Question 8: What is God?
Answer: God is a Spirit, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable, in his being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth.

    Scripture: John 4:24; Psalm 89:14; 90:2; 147:5; James 1:17; Revelation 4:8; Exodus 34:6, 7; 1 Timothy 1:17; Numbers 23:19.
Comment: Ask what "infinite" means (there is no limit to how great he is!). What does "eternal" mean? (He never had a beginning and will never have an ending!) Talk about how God can respond to us and yet not be "changeable." (His character never changes; he acts consistently on the same principles always. Even his responses to us are known and planned long before so that his purposes are unchanging.)

Question 9: Are there more Gods than one?
Answer: There is only one living and true God.

    Scripture: Deuteronomy 6:4; Jeremiah 10:10; Psalm 96:4-5.
Comment: There are "gods" which are idols, but they are not "living". And there are "gods" which are angels or demons, but they are not "true" God, that is they are not eternal, infinite and unchanging. Only one God is living and true.

Question 10: How many persons are there in the Godhead?
Answer: There are three persons in the Godhead: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one God, the same in essence, equal in power and glory.

    Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:11; 8:6; John 1:1; 10:30; 14:9; 20:28; Acts 5:3,4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Colossians 2:9; Hebrews 1:3.
Comment: The word "Godhead" is needed because we shouldn't say that there are three persons in God. No, there are three persons who are God. Nor should we say that there are three Gods. There is one God. They are distinct persons with special roles in creation and redemption. But they are in perfect harmony and are (in ways beyond our comprehension) perfectly One God.
Pregnancy Resource Clinic (PRC) Bottle Drive begins on Sunday. Baby bottles are available in the narthex. TUESDAY (6/6)
  • Men's Fellowship, 6:30 pm. NOTE: This is a change to Tuesday  from last week's announcement of Monday since I will be out of town on Monday. We'll gather at the church for a cookout and fellowship. Our discipleship groups are officially dismissed for the summer, but we still want to encourage one another and spur one another on to love and good works. Come on out, and bring a friend! (And if your discipleship group wants to meet periodically, that is absolutely ok, too).

WEDNESDAY (6/7)
  • Women's Wednesday morning ZOOM Bible Study is on hiatus until June 21.
  • Men's Wednesday Morning Discipleship Group is on hiatus for the summer.
  • Men's Wednesday Evening Discipleship Group is on hiatus for summer.
  • Youth Bible Study, 6:30 - 8 pm, in the youth room. Fellowship and hangout time, snacks, followed by time in the Word of God. We are "storying" our way through the Gospel of Mark. We will be in Mark 7:24-37. If you are in grades 7-12, come out and join us.
  • Bible Study and Prayer, 6:30 pm in the Great Room, live and via ZOOM.  Join us for a time of prayer and time in God's Word as we study the book of Exodus. We will be in Exodus 17:8-16, "Israel Does Battle with Amalek." To join Zoom Meeting, follow this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87573789453?pwd=Zjg5ZWZ2N1h5WklxOEFjM3IrVUt1QT09    Meeting ID: 875 7378 9453    Passcode: 478672

THURSDAY (6/8)
  • MEN'S DISCIPLESHIP GROUP is on hiatus for the summer.
SUNDAY (6/11)
  • Bro. Gary Dean will be preaching during morning worship as I will be in New Orleans for the SBC Annual Meeting. Please be in prayer for this meeting as the SBC is facing significant challenges. Pray that there would be a change in the leftward drift of certain institutions and agencies and that we would become more biblically oriented rather than less as a convention. The Bridgmans and I will be messengers this year, and we would welcome three more who might be willing to serve. If you would be available and willing to pay your way to go, even for just the Tuesday session (June 13), please let me know.

MONDAY (6/12)

FIGHTER VERSE: Our Fighter Verse this week is James 4:13-14
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.

Greetings, Church Family and Friends!
I hope you are enjoying this beautiful day that the Lord has given us. As you prepare for the Lord's Day tomorrow, may you be filled with adoration for our Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

BRIDGMANS TO THE HOLY LAND: This is also a special week in the life of our church as Kyle and Sue Bridgman will be traveling to the Holy Land for a 10-day tour. Last October, our church family decided to send the Bridgmans to Israel in recognition of Kyle's 25 years of faithful service at First Baptist. If you would like to contribute financially, you may do so by making a designated offering to FBC and marking the check or envelope either "HOLY LAND" (for the trip itself) or to "BRIDGMANS" (personal love gift for incidental expenses). Of course, you can always contribute directly to Kyle and Sue. We are excited for them to make this trip as neither of them have previously been to the Holy Land.

THE LORD'S DAY (5/21):
  • Bible Study for All Ages, 9:30 am. Nursery through Senior Adults, we have a group for you.
  • Worship Together at 10:40 in the Sanctuary. We will be in Luke 22:7-20, "Do This In Remembrance of Me." As Jesus ate Passover with His disciples, He also prepared them to eat it without Him in the future. The Passover meal was filled with Messianic significance for the Jewish people of Jesus' day, although this was hidden from their minds for the most part. At this last meal Jesus shared with His disciples, He instituted the Lord’s Supper, making much of that hidden significance plain. Jesus took a portion of the Passover meal and made it a perpetual meal to be shared by Christ-followers until His return. By it, believers commemorate Christ’s death. Almost invariably, I teach on some aspect of the Lord's Supper when we observe it as a congregation, but this will be the rare occasion when I teach on it without us sharing in the actual meal together. I am looking forward to teaching on the Passover meal, along with some visual aids.

Scriptures for Sunday.  Here are the Scriptures we will be reading that will shape our corporate worship. Take a few moments to read and meditate on them as you prepare for worship tomorrow. Click anywhere on the link to see a printable version of these passages on biblegateway.com
  • Call to Worship: Psalm 68:32-35
  • Assurance of Pardon: Psalm 32:1-2
  • Scripture Reading: Exodus 23:10-33
  • Sermon Text: Luke 22:7-20
  • Benediction: Numbers 6:24-26

Baptist Catechism Questions are Questions 4 & 5 "On the Bible as the Word of God." For the entire catechism, follow this link.

  • Question 4: What is the Word of God?
    • Answer: The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, being given by divine inspiration, are the Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice.
      • Scripture: 2 Peter 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17; Isaiah 8:20; Matthew 5:17- 18; 1 Corinthians 2:13; Psalm 19:7-8.
      • Comment: "Scriptures" is a special word for the "writings" of the OT and NT. Perhaps you will want to explain that the OT deals with God’s word that came before Jesus was born; and the NT is the word of God that came after Jesus was born. "Infallible" means it will never lead us astray in what it teaches. It is true and does not err. It can be trusted. "Faith" refers to right thinking and feeling; and "practice" refers to right doing. We measure our thoughts and emotions and actions by the rule of the Bible. "Inspiration" means that it is God-breathed: by his Spirit he guided his spokesmen to speak his word in their language.
  • Question 5: How do we know that the Bible is the Word of God?
    • Answer: The Bible evidences itself to be God’s Word by the heavenliness of its doctrine, the unity of its parts, and its power to convert sinners and to edify saints. But only the Spirit of God can make us willing to agree and submit to the Bible as the Word of God.
      • Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:6-7,13-16; Psalm 19:7-9; 119:18,129; Acts 10:43; 26:22; 18:28; Hebrews 4:12; Romans 15:4; John 16:13,14; 1 John 2:20-27; 2 Corinthians 3:14-17; 4:4, 6.
      • Comment: "Heavenliness" refers to the fact [that] the teachings of Scripture are of such a nature that they cannot be explained by mere human resources. They bear the marks of the supernatural. "No man ever spoke like this man" (John 7:46). The "unity of its parts" has to do especially with the way all Scripture points to Christ. "To him all the prophets bear witness" (Acts 10:43). There are detailed and scholarly historical arguments for the reliability of the Bible, but these are generally beyond the acquaintance of ordinary Christians, and so do not serve as widespread support for Scripture. They are needed, however, in the scholarly arena. [See "Is the Bible a Reliable Guide to Lasting Joy" in Desiring God by John Piper (Multnomah Press, 1986).]
  • Maysville High School Graduation Commencement, 1:30 pm, New Gym. Alexia Allen, Wesley Poston, and Cooper Berry are graduating.

  • Bible Study and Prayer, 6:30 pm in the Great Room, live and via ZOOM.  Join us for a time of prayer and time in God's Word as we study the book of Exodus. We will be in Exodus 17, "Water from the Rock." To join Zoom Meeting, follow this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87573789453?pwd=Zjg5ZWZ2N1h5WklxOEFjM3IrVUt1QT09    Meeting ID: 875 7378 9453    Passcode: 478672

READ THROUGH THE BIBLE The Five-Day Bible Reading Plan is attached to this e-mail for your convenience. You may want to access additional resources to support your reading available at this website. Daily Bible reading is one of the leading indicators of spiritual growth and vitality in the Christian's life.

MAN KNOWS NOT HIS TIME: This week, the larger Christian community lost two men who made an indelible impression on their denomination, the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). Tim Keller, pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian in NYC, and Harry Reeder, pastor of Briarwood Presbyterian in Birmingham, AL, both served the Lord faithfully and well in their local churches and in the PCA. Keller (age 72) had been battling pancreatic cancer for the last 3 years. In recent years, Keller had begun to embrace more of the "wokism" which has become so prevalent in evangelicalism today. But that does not negate the powerfully positive impact his ministry made on a wide swath of Christians of all perspectives over the course of many years.
Reeder (age 75) was killed when the vehicle he was driving rear-ended a stopped dump truck. Less well-known than Keller, Harry Reeder was a mentor to many in his denomination over the years, and he stood staunchly for biblical conservatism as the PCA faced the challenge of liberal voices who were seeking to take the PCA in a leftward direction. Our hearts go out to their families and all those affected by their death of both of these men. [NOTE: For those who may not be aware, the PCA is a denomination formed in 1973 out of the former PCUS (Southern Presbyterians) over growing theological liberalism in that denomination. The PCA took a stand for the inerrancy of Scripture, the deity of Christ, and the Scriptural qualifications for men in the office of elder/pastor. The biblically and theologically conservative PCA has stood in stark contrast over the last half-century to the PCUSA, the larger, theologically liberal, mainline denomination which denies the inerrancy and authority of Scripture.]

See you in church!

Grace and peace,

Pastor Greg

Greetings, Church Family and Friends!

Thanks to all who came out for the National Day of Prayer gathering at the courthouse on Thursday. Around thirty of our community members were in attendance, and approximately one-third of them were representing First Baptist.
I love you all so much, and I really appreciate seeing you all come out in support of community prayer events.

As you prepare for the Lord's Day tomorrow, please take a few minutes as you read this email to pray for the services tomorrow, to pray for our graduates as we honor them, and to pray for those who have lost loved ones this week. We especially want to express Christian sympathy to Trina and Aaron Reeder on the death of their son, Trevor Dawson. Trevor's services were yesterday afternoon; thank you to all who were in attendance, who brought food, or in other ways supported the family during this difficult time.

THE LORD'S DAY (5/7):
  • Graduate Breakfast, 8:30 am. All are invited to join with us in honoring and celebrating our graduates, high school and beyond. Come on out and enjoy this delicious breakfast! We recognize Alexia Allen-Jones, Wesley Poston, and Hunter Hulett as graduates of Maysville High School (Commencement May 21 at 1:30 pm); Alyssa Allie as a graduate of St. Joseph Christian School (Commencement May 14 at 3 pm); and Laura Phillips, Physician Associate, University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, graduated October 2022.
  • Bible Study for All Ages, 9:30 am. Nursery through Senior Adult, we have a group for you.
  • Worship Together at 10:40 in the Sanctuary. We will be in Luke 21:20-38 with the sermon entitled "Prepare to Persevere." Here is a summary along with the basic outline. The Christian life has been compared to a marathon. Those who endure to the end prove themselves to be the true believers in Christ. Christians are people who persevere in the faith. This passage continues the theme of being prepared for Christ’s return that we began looking at in Luke 21 last week. This is effectively “part two” of that message. As disciples of Jesus, we must prepare actively to persevere in the midst of trials with these three words of encouragement (find out what the blanks are tomorrow morning!):
    1. Learn ______from the past (vss. 20-24) cf. Mt. 24:9-14
    2. Look _______to the future (vss. 25-33) cf. Is. 34:4-5; Acts 1:9-11;
    3. Live _____________in the present (vss. 34-38) cf. 2 Peter 3:3-4, 9-13

Scriptures for Sunday.  Here are the Scriptures we will be reading that will shape our corporate worship. Take a few moments to read and meditate on them as you prepare for worship tomorrow. Click anywhere on the link to see a printable version of these passages on biblegateway.com

  • Benediction: Numbers 6:24-26

Baptist Catechism Questions are Questions 117-118 "On the Lord's Prayer." For the entire catechism, follow this link.

  • Question 117: What do we pray for in the sixth petition?

    • Answer: The conclusion of the Lord's Prayer, which is, "For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever, Amen," teaches us to take our encouragement in prayer from God only, and in our prayers to praise him, ascribing kingdom, power, and glory to him; and in testimony of our desire, and assurance to be heard, we say AMEN.
      • Scripture: Matthew 6:13; Daniel 9:18, 19; 1 Chronicles 29:11-13; 1 Corinthians 14:16; Philippians 4:6; Revelation 22:20.

  • BACCALAUREATE will be held at 7 pm (right after the scholarship and awards recognition in the commons area) in the Old Gym at Maysville High School. BONUS: I recommend podcasts from time to time. Here is one I have recommended in the past (I think), but a new season has just launched. It is called Open Book with Stephen Nichols. Dr. Nichols is a church history professor who is president of Reformation Bible College, Sanford, FL. This season he is interviewing Derek Thomas about books that have made an impact on him. Take a listen to these brief episodes, around 10 minutes each.

See you in church!
