GREETINGS, EVERYONE! Thanks to everyone who came out for the Superbowl Party last Sunday evening, and especially those who brought soups. This year's chili cookoff entries were notable for their absence this year. Out of the five entries in the soup/chili cookoff, none were chili! But it all tasted good, and we enjoyed good fellowship together. The game was merely an occasion to get together. Adults and kids played board games and worked puzzles together. The football-minded watched the game on the "Big Screen." At half-time, we were encouraged by Christian testimonies from professional football players via video. A big "thank you" to Pastor Kyle and Sue for coordinating the evening for us.

THE LORD'S DAY (2/20)
  • Bible Study for All Ages, 9:30 am. There is no better time than the present to join a Sunday morning Bible study. Age-graded classes from nursery through high school plus four non-age graded classes for adults are available. Come on out and bring the whole family!
  • Worship Together at 10:40 in the Sanctuary. Sermon subject will be "Marks of True Greatness," from Luke 9:43b - 50.
  • Scriptures for Sunday. Here are the Scriptures we will be reading that will shape our corporate worship. Take a few moments to read and meditate on them. Also, we have seven different Scriptures in our morning worship, so they make a great resource for personal or family worship Sunday through Saturday. Click anywhere on the link to see a printable version of these passages on biblegateway.com
  • Fighter Verses: Psalm 103:11-1
  • Call to Worship: Psalm 37:1-11, 39-40

      • Reading a book together, possibly a Christian classic, or even the "Satan" book that many of you purchased a few months ago
      • Christian biography
      • God's influence on early American history
      • Christian worldview
      • A particular Bible book (likely Old Testament since we are in the New Testament on Sunday mornings)
Let me know if you have suggestions. We will likely do either some stand-alone studies for a few weeks or a short

COMING UP:
  • Midland Ministries Main Event: MPI (Movie, Pizza, Ice Skating), Friday, March 18, 6 - 11:45 pm. Leave Maysville at 5 pm, return approximately 12:30 am Saturday. Grades 6 - 12. This is one of the more highly attended Midland events of the year. Save the date!
  • Disaster Relief Training. A couple of opportunities are coming up, one in Cape Girardeau and the other in Chillicothe. You can follow this link to register for either one. I would like to take a group over for training to Chillicothe in April. The typical schedule is Friday evening starting at 7 or so, then all day Saturday until around 4 pm. While you can do on-the-job training in DR work, it is always preferable that you have current certification in some area of DR. Certification means you will be on the list for future call-outs and will already have the know-how to do the work. Plus, you will already know the "dos and don'ts" of DR. You can register online by following this link.
    • Lynwood Baptist Church, Cape Girardeau, MO, March 4 - 5, 2022
    • First Baptist Church, Chillicothe, MO, April 8 - 9, 2022. I would like to take a group to this training if possible. Must be 18 or older to train and be deployed on call-outs to relief efforts. A flyer describing the event is attached to this e-mail.

READ THROUGH THE BIBLE The Five-Day Bible Reading Plan is attached to this e-mail for your convenience. You may want to access additional resources to support your reading available at this website.

BONUS: While we are on the subject of reading through the Bible, I want to share something with you from my own personal devotional reading of God's word not all that long ago. Psalm 119 was one of the readings in my effort to read the Bible through. I began this plan at the beginning of 2021, and I am just a little over halfway through. My "read the Bible through in a year" is becoming more like an 18 to 24-month project. But with the Lord's help, I am seeking to be more consistent. (I am not a fast reader, but when reading Scripture, it is doubtful we should be trying to read the text as quickly as possible. Rather, we ought to meditate on it, ruminate over it, and be marinated in it, as it were). But on that day, Jan. 6, I was struck by the word "revive" in Psalm 119. To renew, to make alive again, to resurrect, to awaken -- all could be synonyms for "revive." It is a common refrain. It is found in the following verses:
25b - "Revive me according to Your word"
37b - "...revive me in Your ways"
40b - "Revive me through Your righteousness"
88a - "Revive me according to Your lovingkindness"
93b - "...by [Your precepts] You have revived me"
107b - "Revive me, O LORD, according to Your word"
149b - "Revive me, O LORD, according to Your ordinances"
154b - "Revive me according to Your word"
156b - "Revive me according to Your ordinances"
159b - "Revive me according to Your lovingkindness"
Ten times in Psalm 119 in the New American Standard Bible this word "revive" occurs. May it be my (and our) constant prayer personally, for our families, and for our church.

See you in church!

Grace and peace,

Pastor Greg
