GREETINGS, FBC FAMILY AND FRIENDS,
My apologies for the lateness of this update. Please take time to read through it in preparation for the Lord's Day tomorrow, and plan today to attend Bible Study and worship tomorrow morning. Until then, stay warm!

THE LORD'S DAY (3/19):
  • Bible Study for All Ages, 9:30 am. Nursery through Senior Adult, we have a group for you!
  • Worship Together at 10:40 in the Sanctuary. The sermon will focus on Luke 20:19-26 "Render to Caesar the Things That Are Caesar's" e religious leaders opposed Jesus, but did so primarily with treachery. Sending spies  who feigned sincerity, they sought to trap Jesus in His speech and deliver Him up to Pilate. They asked Him a question which they thought would put Jesus on the horns of a dilemma (see 20:1-8 to see how this strategy worked out for them before!). The passage breaks down into the following outline:
    1. The Setup (19-20)
    2. The Religious Leaders’ Question (21-22)
      1. They begin with flattery
        1. They call him “Teacher”
        2. They profess to know about Him
          1. “You speak and teach rightly”
          2. “You show no partiality”
          3. “You truly teach the way of God”
      2. They then spring the trap: “Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?”
    3. Jesus’ Answer (23-25)
      1. Jesus truly knows them: “he perceived their craftiness”
      2. He answers first with a command and a question:
        1. Command: “Show me a denarius.”
        2. Question: “Whose likeness and inscription does it have?”
      3. Adversaries’ answer: “Caesar’s”
      4. Jesus’ response is twofold:
        1. “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s”, i.e. the things owed to Caesar
        2. “...and to God the things that are God’s”, i.e. the things belonging to God
    4. Conclusion: Marveling and Silence from Jesus’ Opposition (26)

Baptist Catechism Questions are Questions 100-102 "On Baptism." For the entire catechism, follow this link.
  • Question 100: What is Baptism?
    • Answer: Baptism is a holy ordinance, in which immersion in the water in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, signifies our being joined to Christ and our sharing the benefits of the covenant of grace, and our engagement to be the Lord’s.  Scripture: Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:3-5; Colossians 2:12; Galatians 3:27.
  • Question 101: To whom is Baptism to be administered?
    • Answer: Baptism is to be administered to all those who actually profess repentance towards God, faith in, and obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ, and to no other.  Scripture: Acts 2:38; 8:12, 36; 10:47, 48; Matthew 3:6; Mark 16:16.
  • Question 102: Are the infants of professing believers to be baptized?
    • Answer: The infants of believers are not to be baptized; because there is neither command nor example in the Holy Scriptures, nor implication from them to baptize such. But baptism is made an expression of faith.  Scripture: Colossians 2:12; 1 Peter 3:21; Galatians 3:26, 27.
