GREETINGS, CHURCH FAMILY AND FRIENDS! This is a busy Saturday of ministry at First Baptist Church:
  • Deacon Meeting at 7:30 am in which we will be praying for nominations received for the office of deacon from our members.
  • Missions Conference at Frederick Boulevard has been postponed due to sickness of speaker
  • Baby Shower for David & Sadie Ousley and baby Lily, 2 - 4 pm in the Fellowship Hall
  • MACH 4 will be held at FBC at 6 pm Let's plan on bringing chili and soup with all the fixins' (crackers, fritos, pickles, all manner of cheese). All men and boys are welcome to attend.

Operation Christmas Child Our church deadline for filled boxes to be brought to the church is this Sunday, November 13. On November 20, we will pray and have our "box brigade" at the end of the service. Postage is $10 per box, and checks may be made out to the church for that purpose. Learn more about OCC and how to pack a shoebox by visiting the website here.

THE LORD'S DAY (11/13):
  • Bible Study for All Ages, 9:30 am. Nursery through Senior Adult, we have a group for you!
  • Worship Together at 10:40 in the Sanctuary. We will be back in Luke 16:14-18 on the theme "Why God's Law Matters in the Kingdom."  The sermon summary and outline are as follows:

God has a purpose for His law during the reign of grace. Ever since the Reformation restored the Gospel of God’s free grace as the way of salvation, Christians have debated just how the commands of the Mosaic Law should be applied in light of that Gospel. Since the Law is fundamentally the revelation of God’s holy will, how and to what extent should it inform the civil code? What authority does the Law have over personal morality and ethics? While Luther, Zwingli, and Calvin arrived at separate conclusions on these two “uses of the Law,” the one area that the Reformers found broad agreement on was this: that God’s Law brings men to a knowledge of their sins. We explore that purpose under the following three assertions:
  1. God’s law reveals what is in your heart (14-15)
Luke 11; 15:2; 13:28; 18:9-14; Hebrews 4;12-13
  1. God’s law paves the way for you to embrace the Gospel. (16-17)    Matthew 3:2; 4:17; Romans 1:16
  1. God’s law reminds you of your guilt before a holy God and your need to be washed and made clean (18)
Deuteronomy 24:1-4; Romans 3:4

Further Take Aways:
  • God’s Law for the regenerate person is a delight for thought and action (Psalm 1). It is a blessing for life and a source of thanksgiving (Psalm 119:1, 7).
  • God’s Law is a blessing to an upright government, and any people is blessed whose rulers seek its counsel (Deut. 17:18-20)
  • Scriptures for Sunday.  Here are the Scriptures we will be reading that will shape our corporate worship. Take a few moments to read and meditate on them as you prepare for worship tomorrow. Click anywhere on the link to see a printable version of these passages on biblegateway
    • Call to Worship: Psalm 145:1-13
    • Assurance of Pardon: 1 John 1:9
    • Scripture Reading: Exodus 8:20-32
    • Sermon Text: Luke 16:14-18
    • Benediction: Numbers 6:24-26
  • Baptist Catechism Question
    • Question 48: What is the sum of the Ten Commandments?
      Answer:
The sum of the Ten Commandments is to love the Lord our God, with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our strength, and with all our mind; and to love our neighbor as ourselves.
      Scripture: Matthew 22:36-40; Mark 12:28-33.

Question 49: What is the preface to the Ten Commandments?
      Answer:
The preface to the Ten Commandments is, "I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage."
      Scripture: Exodus 20:2.

Question 50: What does the preface to the Ten Commandments teach us?
      Answer:
The preface to the Ten Commandments teaches us that because God is the LORD, and our gracious Redeemer, his commandments are for our good and he does not will for us to depend on ourselves in keeping them, but to trust his grace and power.

      Scripture: Deuteronomy 10:13, 16; 30:6.
