Greetings, Church Family and Friends!
I hope you are enjoying this beautiful day that the Lord has given us. As you prepare for the Lord's Day tomorrow, may you be filled with adoration for our Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

BRIDGMANS TO THE HOLY LAND: This is also a special week in the life of our church as Kyle and Sue Bridgman will be traveling to the Holy Land for a 10-day tour. Last October, our church family decided to send the Bridgmans to Israel in recognition of Kyle's 25 years of faithful service at First Baptist. If you would like to contribute financially, you may do so by making a designated offering to FBC and marking the check or envelope either "HOLY LAND" (for the trip itself) or to "BRIDGMANS" (personal love gift for incidental expenses). Of course, you can always contribute directly to Kyle and Sue. We are excited for them to make this trip as neither of them have previously been to the Holy Land.

THE LORD'S DAY (5/21):
  • Bible Study for All Ages, 9:30 am. Nursery through Senior Adults, we have a group for you.
  • Worship Together at 10:40 in the Sanctuary. We will be in Luke 22:7-20, "Do This In Remembrance of Me." As Jesus ate Passover with His disciples, He also prepared them to eat it without Him in the future. The Passover meal was filled with Messianic significance for the Jewish people of Jesus' day, although this was hidden from their minds for the most part. At this last meal Jesus shared with His disciples, He instituted the Lord’s Supper, making much of that hidden significance plain. Jesus took a portion of the Passover meal and made it a perpetual meal to be shared by Christ-followers until His return. By it, believers commemorate Christ’s death. Almost invariably, I teach on some aspect of the Lord's Supper when we observe it as a congregation, but this will be the rare occasion when I teach on it without us sharing in the actual meal together. I am looking forward to teaching on the Passover meal, along with some visual aids.

Scriptures for Sunday.  Here are the Scriptures we will be reading that will shape our corporate worship. Take a few moments to read and meditate on them as you prepare for worship tomorrow. Click anywhere on the link to see a printable version of these passages on biblegateway.com
  • Call to Worship: Psalm 68:32-35
  • Assurance of Pardon: Psalm 32:1-2
  • Scripture Reading: Exodus 23:10-33
  • Sermon Text: Luke 22:7-20
  • Benediction: Numbers 6:24-26

Baptist Catechism Questions are Questions 4 & 5 "On the Bible as the Word of God." For the entire catechism, follow this link.

  • Question 4: What is the Word of God?
    • Answer: The Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, being given by divine inspiration, are the Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice.
      • Scripture: 2 Peter 1:21; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17; Isaiah 8:20; Matthew 5:17- 18; 1 Corinthians 2:13; Psalm 19:7-8.
      • Comment: "Scriptures" is a special word for the "writings" of the OT and NT. Perhaps you will want to explain that the OT deals with God’s word that came before Jesus was born; and the NT is the word of God that came after Jesus was born. "Infallible" means it will never lead us astray in what it teaches. It is true and does not err. It can be trusted. "Faith" refers to right thinking and feeling; and "practice" refers to right doing. We measure our thoughts and emotions and actions by the rule of the Bible. "Inspiration" means that it is God-breathed: by his Spirit he guided his spokesmen to speak his word in their language.
  • Question 5: How do we know that the Bible is the Word of God?
    • Answer: The Bible evidences itself to be God’s Word by the heavenliness of its doctrine, the unity of its parts, and its power to convert sinners and to edify saints. But only the Spirit of God can make us willing to agree and submit to the Bible as the Word of God.
      • Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:6-7,13-16; Psalm 19:7-9; 119:18,129; Acts 10:43; 26:22; 18:28; Hebrews 4:12; Romans 15:4; John 16:13,14; 1 John 2:20-27; 2 Corinthians 3:14-17; 4:4, 6.
      • Comment: "Heavenliness" refers to the fact [that] the teachings of Scripture are of such a nature that they cannot be explained by mere human resources. They bear the marks of the supernatural. "No man ever spoke like this man" (John 7:46). The "unity of its parts" has to do especially with the way all Scripture points to Christ. "To him all the prophets bear witness" (Acts 10:43). There are detailed and scholarly historical arguments for the reliability of the Bible, but these are generally beyond the acquaintance of ordinary Christians, and so do not serve as widespread support for Scripture. They are needed, however, in the scholarly arena. [See "Is the Bible a Reliable Guide to Lasting Joy" in Desiring God by John Piper (Multnomah Press, 1986).]

FIGHTER VERSE: Our Fighter Verse this week is Romans 12:20-21:
To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

READ THROUGH THE BIBLE The Five-Day Bible Reading Plan is attached to this e-mail for your convenience. You may want to access additional resources to support your reading available at this website. Daily Bible reading is one of the leading indicators of spiritual growth and vitality in the Christian's life.

MAN KNOWS NOT HIS TIME: This week, the larger Christian community lost two men who made an indelible impression on their denomination, the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). Tim Keller, pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian in NYC, and Harry Reeder, pastor of Briarwood Presbyterian in Birmingham, AL, both served the Lord faithfully and well in their local churches and in the PCA. Keller (age 72) had been battling pancreatic cancer for the last 3 years. In recent years, Keller had begun to embrace more of the "wokism" which has become so prevalent in evangelicalism today. But that does not negate the powerfully positive impact his ministry made on a wide swath of Christians of all perspectives over the course of many years.
Reeder (age 75) was killed when the vehicle he was driving rear-ended a stopped dump truck. Less well-known than Keller, Harry Reeder was a mentor to many in his denomination over the years, and he stood staunchly for biblical conservatism as the PCA faced the challenge of liberal voices who were seeking to take the PCA in a leftward direction. Our hearts go out to their families and all those affected by their death of both of these men. [NOTE: For those who may not be aware, the PCA is a denomination formed in 1973 out of the former PCUS (Southern Presbyterians) over growing theological liberalism in that denomination. The PCA took a stand for the inerrancy of Scripture, the deity of Christ, and the Scriptural qualifications for men in the office of elder/pastor. The biblically and theologically conservative PCA has stood in stark contrast over the last half-century to the PCUSA, the larger, theologically liberal, mainline denomination which denies the inerrancy and authority of Scripture.]

See you in church!

Grace and peace,

Pastor Greg

Greetings, Church Family and Friends!

Thanks to all who came out for the National Day of Prayer gathering at the courthouse on Thursday. Around thirty of our community members were in attendance, and approximately one-third of them were representing First Baptist.
I love you all so much, and I really appreciate seeing you all come out in support of community prayer events.

As you prepare for the Lord's Day tomorrow, please take a few minutes as you read this email to pray for the services tomorrow, to pray for our graduates as we honor them, and to pray for those who have lost loved ones this week. We especially want to express Christian sympathy to Trina and Aaron Reeder on the death of their son, Trevor Dawson. Trevor's services were yesterday afternoon; thank you to all who were in attendance, who brought food, or in other ways supported the family during this difficult time.

THE LORD'S DAY (5/7):
  • Graduate Breakfast, 8:30 am. All are invited to join with us in honoring and celebrating our graduates, high school and beyond. Come on out and enjoy this delicious breakfast! We recognize Alexia Allen-Jones, Wesley Poston, and Hunter Hulett as graduates of Maysville High School (Commencement May 21 at 1:30 pm); Alyssa Allie as a graduate of St. Joseph Christian School (Commencement May 14 at 3 pm); and Laura Phillips, Physician Associate, University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, graduated October 2022.
  • Bible Study for All Ages, 9:30 am. Nursery through Senior Adult, we have a group for you.
  • Worship Together at 10:40 in the Sanctuary. We will be in Luke 21:20-38 with the sermon entitled "Prepare to Persevere." Here is a summary along with the basic outline. The Christian life has been compared to a marathon. Those who endure to the end prove themselves to be the true believers in Christ. Christians are people who persevere in the faith. This passage continues the theme of being prepared for Christ’s return that we began looking at in Luke 21 last week. This is effectively “part two” of that message. As disciples of Jesus, we must prepare actively to persevere in the midst of trials with these three words of encouragement (find out what the blanks are tomorrow morning!):
    1. Learn ______from the past (vss. 20-24) cf. Mt. 24:9-14
    2. Look _______to the future (vss. 25-33) cf. Is. 34:4-5; Acts 1:9-11;
    3. Live _____________in the present (vss. 34-38) cf. 2 Peter 3:3-4, 9-13

BONUS: I recommend podcasts from time to time. Here is one I have recommended in the past (I think), but a new season has just launched. It is called Open Book with Stephen Nichols. Dr. Nichols is a church history professor who is president of Reformation Bible College, Sanford, FL. This season he is interviewing Derek Thomas about books that have made an impact on him. Take a listen to these brief episodes, around 10 minutes each.

See you in church!

GREETINGS, FBC FAMILY AND FRIENDS,
What a beautiful day God has given to us today! Please take time to read through this update in preparation for the Lord's Day tomorrow, and plan today to attend Bible Study and worship tomorrow morning.

THE LORD'S DAY (3/26):
  • Bible Study for All Ages, 9:30 am. Nursery through Senior Adult, we have a group for you!
  • Worship Together at 10:40 in the Sanctuary. The sermon will focus on Luke 20:27-40 "Resurrection Questions" in which the Sadducees try to stump Jesus on the subject of the resurrection from the dead. This is His third encounter with the religious leaders and their questions. Unlike the other two instances, however, He doesn't answer their question with another question; He responds directly, with clarity, brevity, and authority. After this, no one dared to ask Jesus any more questions.

Folks are often open to an invitation to attend church on a special day. The first pastor that I served alongside in ministry was saved at age 25 when he attended church to please his wife and mother. He heard the Gospel with the ears of faith for the first time that day and came to know Christ. Soon after, he discerned a call into the pulpit ministry. He is now retired from full-time ministry, but still looks back on that day when he went to church to satisfy his family and ended up having a life-changing encounter with the living Lord.
  • GRAND OAKS CAMPS SAVE THE DATE
    • Youth Camp, completed grades 7-12, June 19-23
    • Children's Camp, completed grades 4-6, July 24-28
    • Follow this link for more information
  • VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL, July 10-14, evenings. Contact Dava Hackett for more info.

FIGHTER VERSE: Our Fighter Verse this week is Psalm 96:4-5
For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;
he is to be feared above all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.

GREETINGS, FBC FAMILY AND FRIENDS,
My apologies for the lateness of this update. Please take time to read through it in preparation for the Lord's Day tomorrow, and plan today to attend Bible Study and worship tomorrow morning. Until then, stay warm!

THE LORD'S DAY (3/19):
  • Bible Study for All Ages, 9:30 am. Nursery through Senior Adult, we have a group for you!
  • Worship Together at 10:40 in the Sanctuary. The sermon will focus on Luke 20:19-26 "Render to Caesar the Things That Are Caesar's" e religious leaders opposed Jesus, but did so primarily with treachery. Sending spies  who feigned sincerity, they sought to trap Jesus in His speech and deliver Him up to Pilate. They asked Him a question which they thought would put Jesus on the horns of a dilemma (see 20:1-8 to see how this strategy worked out for them before!). The passage breaks down into the following outline:
    1. The Setup (19-20)
    2. The Religious Leaders’ Question (21-22)
      1. They begin with flattery
        1. They call him “Teacher”
        2. They profess to know about Him
          1. “You speak and teach rightly”
          2. “You show no partiality”
          3. “You truly teach the way of God”
      2. They then spring the trap: “Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?”
    3. Jesus’ Answer (23-25)
      1. Jesus truly knows them: “he perceived their craftiness”
      2. He answers first with a command and a question:
        1. Command: “Show me a denarius.”
        2. Question: “Whose likeness and inscription does it have?”
      3. Adversaries’ answer: “Caesar’s”
      4. Jesus’ response is twofold:
        1. “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s”, i.e. the things owed to Caesar
        2. “...and to God the things that are God’s”, i.e. the things belonging to God
    4. Conclusion: Marveling and Silence from Jesus’ Opposition (26)

Baptist Catechism Questions are Questions 100-102 "On Baptism." For the entire catechism, follow this link.
  • Question 100: What is Baptism?
    • Answer: Baptism is a holy ordinance, in which immersion in the water in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, signifies our being joined to Christ and our sharing the benefits of the covenant of grace, and our engagement to be the Lord’s.  Scripture: Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:3-5; Colossians 2:12; Galatians 3:27.
  • Question 101: To whom is Baptism to be administered?
    • Answer: Baptism is to be administered to all those who actually profess repentance towards God, faith in, and obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ, and to no other.  Scripture: Acts 2:38; 8:12, 36; 10:47, 48; Matthew 3:6; Mark 16:16.
  • Question 102: Are the infants of professing believers to be baptized?
    • Answer: The infants of believers are not to be baptized; because there is neither command nor example in the Holy Scriptures, nor implication from them to baptize such. But baptism is made an expression of faith.  Scripture: Colossians 2:12; 1 Peter 3:21; Galatians 3:26, 27.

GREETINGS, FBC FAMILY AND FRIENDS,
Today we will lay to rest Dixie Thornton who passed away last Friday evening. Services are this morning at Turner Funeral Home with visitation at 10 am and funeral service at 11 am and burial to follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery. We remember Dixie as a faithful servant of Christ, committed to missions and missions education in our church and around the world. We extend Christian sympathy to Tommy and his family as they grieve her passing.

MACH 4 Men's Ministry: This evening, MACH 4 will meet at Oak Christian Church at 6 pm for a meal and fellowship. Since it is close to Valentine's Day, men are encouraged to bring their wives for the meal. Please let Barry Kagay know ASAP if you plan to attend at bkkagay@gmail.com so that they can have adequate food prepared.

THE LORD'S DAY (2/12):
  • Bible Study for All Ages, 9:30 am. Nursery through Senior Adult, we have a group for you!
  • Worship Together at 10:40 in the Sanctuary. The sermon will focus on Luke 19:1-10, "Today Salvation Has Come to This House," the account of Jesus' meeting with Zacchaeus. Still on the way to Jerusalem but stopping in Jericho, Jesus sees Zacchaeus the tax collector up in a sycamore tree trying to get a glimpse of Jesus. Jesus instructs him to come down because He is coming to Zacchaeus' house. Zacchaeus is converted that day and gives evidence of his repentance and faith to all those gathered that day. The title of the message is taken from Jesus' pronouncement, "Today, salvation has come to this house."

  • Baptist Catechism Questions are Questions 88-89 "On the Purpose of the Law." For the entire catechism, follow this link.
    • Question 88: Is any man able perfectly to keep the commandments of God?
Answer: No mere man, since the fall, is able in this life, perfectly to keep the commandments of God, but daily falls short of inward and outward perfection.

Question 89: What then is the purpose of the law since the fall?
Answer: The purpose of the law, since the fall, is to reveal the perfect righteousness of God, that his people may know the path of faith that leads to life, and that the ungodly may be convicted of their sin, restrained from evil, and brought to Christ for salvation.

Saturday evening he will be speaking on "The Penal Substitutionary Atonement of Christ." This is a central doctrine of Biblical Christianity, but it is being denied by many well-known pastors today, including Brian Zahnd of Word of Life Church in St. Joseph. Justin's message will equip you to understand the importance of this doctrine and help you answer those who have questions about its importance.

FIGHTER VERSE: Our Fighter Verse this week is Psalm 37:[1-2], 3-4
[Fret not yourself because of evildoers;
    be not envious of wrongdoers!
2 For they will soon fade like the grass
and wither like the green herb.]
3 Trust in the Lord, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

I want to encourage you to read through the Bible, or ...

...LISTEN THROUGH THE BIBLE As I shared last week, we now have access to multiple ways where you can listen to someone read the Bible to you. If you would like to hear the King James Bible dramatized, you can. If you would like to hear Max McLean read the ESV, you can. If you would like to hear David Suchet read the NIV in Oxford accent, you can. The apostle Peter describes the power of God's word this way in 1 Peter 1:22-25 (quoting from Isaiah 40):
22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; 24 for
“All flesh is like grass
and all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
    and the flower falls,
25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.”
And this word is the good news that was preached to you.

BONUS: By now, most of you have heard about what happened at the Grammy Awards last Sunday night. For those who haven't heard, it was basically a musical tribute to Satan. If you want to hear (or read) more about it, I suggest the insightful episode of The Briefing with Al Mohler from last Tuesday. His analysis is spot on as usual.

BONUS BONUS: Keith and Kristyn Getty are coming to Midwestern Seminary on Sunday evening, March 26. You likely associate them with songs such as "In Christ Alone" and "The Power of the Cross." They have been a blessing to the church at large, and they are well worth seeing in concert. Tickets are $25 for general admission. For more information, visit this website.

See you in church!

Grace and peace,

Pastor Greg

GREETINGS, FBC FAMILY AND FRIENDS,
On this Saturday, take some time to pause, read Scripture, appreciate God's beautiful creation, and prepare you heart for the Lord's Day tomorrow. As we gather with the people of God, we pray that He will bless the moments we have together as we worship Him, come under the Spirit-empowered teaching of Scripture, and then are sent out to love and serve our neighbor with the love of Christ.

CHRISTIAN SYMPATHY EXTENDED
  • To the family of past member Pauline Kolb whose services were held last week. Pauline led the youth choir many years ago at First Baptist. We received a note from Gary and Gae Kolb and family which appears on the main bulletin board for you to read.
  • To the family of member Cora Fisher, who passed away on Tuesday. Some have asked about details for her service which is not as yet planned. The family will have a memorial service for Cora when the weather is a bit warmer to allow older family members to attend. We will share those details as we know about them.
We received word of another member's passing into eternity just last evening, and more information will be shared tomorrow morning. It is our policy to wait at least 24 hours before giving notice of a church member's death through e-mail, texts, or social media messaging. This allows family members and others close to the deceased to be contacted and reduces the likelihood that someone close to the person will first learn of it through some public source rather than through a personal communication.

THE LORD'S DAY (2/5):
  • Bible Study for All Ages, 9:30 am. Nursery through Senior Adult, we have a group for you!
  • Worship Together at 10:40 in the Sanctuary. The sermon will focus on Luke 18:31-43, "The Seeing Are Blind, and the Blind See". On the way to Jerusalem, Jesus foretold his death for a third time to his disciples. But they did not understand; in effect, they were blind to the truth. Then at Jericho, Jesus grants sight to a blind beggar who cries out to Him for mercy. The irony of these two events occurring back-to-back is part of the lesson: Jesus opens the eyes of whom He will, when He will, and how He will. The other part of the lesson is that Jesus brought healing to the blind man as an act of pure grace, but it was in response to the man's desire to be made well and His faith in Christ's ability to do it. This was the occasion for much rejoicing and praise, just as Isaiah 35:5 prophesied: "Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped..."

  • Baptist Catechism Questions are Questions 85-87 "On the Tenth Commandment." For the entire catechism, follow this link.

Answer: The tenth commandment is, "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his man servant, nor his maid servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor’s."

      Scripture: Exodus 20:17.

Question 86: What is required in the tenth commandment?
Answer: The tenth commandment requires contentment with our own condition, with a right and charitable frame of spirit towards our neighbor, and all that is his.

      Scripture: Hebrews 13:5; 1 Timothy 6:6; Romans 12:15; 1 Corinthians 13:4-7; Leviticus 19:18.

Question 87: What is forbidden in the tenth commandment?
Answer: The tenth commandment forbids all murmuring over our own condition and all envying or grieving at the good of our neighbor, and all inordinate affections for anything that is his.

READ THROUGH THE BIBLE The Five-Day Bible Reading Plan is attached to this e-mail for your convenience. You may want to access additional resources to support your reading available at this website. Whether or not you read the Bible through in a year, I encourage you to pick a book of the Bible and commit to reading it straight through, regardless of how long it takes you. Then when you are finished, pick another and do the same thing.
I encourage you to read the Bible every day, no matter how much or how little you read. A pastor friend of mine challenged his church to read at least seven verses a day. That takes less than one minute to do. You may not have one hour to read the Bible, but you do have one minute (and you likely have five minutes!).

LISTEN THROUGH THE BIBLE One of the miracles of modern technology is that, if you have a computer, a tablet, or a smartphone, you can listen to someone else read the Bible to you. If you would like to hear the King James Bible dramatized, you can. If you would like to hear Max McLean read the ESV, you can. If you would like to hear David Suchet read the NIV in Oxford accent, you can. The point is, there is literally more opportunity now than ever before to listen to the Bible. Many people find this easier or more convenient for any number of reasons. We have this truth about the value of hearing God's Word, that "faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ" (Rom. 10:17). While this is primarily concerned with the preaching of Scripture, it secondarily may be applied to simply hearing the Bible read. However you do it, take the Bible into your life.

See you in church!

GREETINGS, FBC FAMILY AND FRIENDS!
Just a reminder at the start that a MACH 4 Men's Ministry will meet at 6 pm this evening at Fairport Baptist Church for a meal, devotion, and hands-on ministry initiative planning. All men and boys are invited and encouraged to attend.
LIVING HOPE, our local food pantry, needs volunteers on Mondays from 2 pm to 6 pm. If you are available to serve drop by their location just drop by their location on Main Street just one block west of the church.

THE LORD'S DAY (1/15):
  • Bible Study for All Ages, 9:30 am. Nursery through Senior Adult, we have a group for you!
  • Worship Together at 10:40 in the Sanctuary. The sermon will focus on Luke 18:-14, Jesus' Parable of the Pharisee and the Publican. This is arguably Jesus' most well-known parable after the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15. Jesus addresses those who were pridefully trusting in their own righteousness before God by saying that humility before God is needful. Humble contrition, a penitent spirit, and reliance on God's mercy are all characteristic of those whom God chooses to exalt. We'll learn more about this quality when we gather for worship.

Scriptures for Sunday.  Here are the Scriptures we will be reading that will shape our corporate worship. Take a few moments to read and meditate on them as you prepare for worship tomorrow. Click anywhere on the link to see a printable version of these passages on biblegateway
  • Call to Worship: Psalm 40:1-11
  • Assurance of Pardon: Psalm 40:16-17
  • Scripture Reading: Exodus 12:40-51
  • Sermon Text: Luke 18:9-14
  • Benediction: Numbers 6:24-26

  • Baptist Catechism Questions are Questions 76-78 "On the Seventh Commandment." For the entire catechism, follow this link.
    • Question 76: Which is the seventh commandment?
Answer: The seventh commandment is, "Thou shalt not commit adultery."

      Scripture: Exodus 20:14.

Question 77: What is required in the seventh commandment?
Answer: The seventh commandment requires that we preserve our own and our neighbor’s chastity, in heart, speech, and behavior.

      Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:18; 7:2; 2 Timothy 2:22; Matthew 5:28; 1 Peter 3:2.

Question 78: What is forbidden in the seventh commandment?
Answer: The seventh commandment forbids all unchaste thoughts, words and actions.

      Scripture: Matthew 5:28-32; Job 31:1; Ephesians 5:3, 4; Romans 13:13; Colossians 4:6.

FIGHTER VERSE: Our Fighter Verse this week is Philippian 3:7-8
But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.

READ THROUGH THE BIBLE The Five-Day Bible Reading Plan is attached to this e-mail for your convenience. You may want to access additional resources to support your reading available at this website. This is a chronological reading plan through the entire Bible in one year. Many Bible reading plans are available at this link. I encourage you to have a plan to read the Bible and stick with that plan. But if you fall behind, don't be discouraged. Just pick up where you left off and carry on. My main encouragement to you is read the Bible daily and read through each book of the Bible beginning to end, regardless of which Bible books you are reading.

BONUS: January is Sanctity of Human Life Month. Since the Supreme Court reversed Roe vs. Wade several months ago, we have seen a number of formerly predictably pro-life states overturn pro-life legislation or pass pro-abortion legislation. Please pray for the pre-born and their mothers. Consider supporting the following pro-life organizations who help to stop abortion, help stop human trafficking, and help adoption happen.
  • Pregnancy Resource Clinic and Willowbrook Women's Center (St. Joseph and Cameron)
  • Missouri Baptist Children's Home (campuses throughout the state) and The Lighthouse (Kansas City)

See you in church!

Grace and peace,

Pastor Greg

GREETINGS, FBC FAMILY AND FRIENDS! The New Year came in with much milder temperatures than we had the previous week, along with some much-needed rain, and what a blessing it was from the Lord! Thanks especially to all those who came out to Sunset Home for the vesper service. Eleven of our members joined with six residents for a time of prayer, praise, and devotion. it was our first time back since December 2019 (pre-COVID). The residents really seemed to appreciate us being there!

Right at the start, let me mention that the Committee/Ministry Team General Organizational Meeting scheduled for this Sunday is postponed to Sunday, January 15. I deeply apologize for any inconvenience, but earlier this week, I became aware of a direct conflict in my schedule for January 8. So on January 15, we will meet in the Fellowship Hall to organize for 2023.                 Each committee will meet to elect a new chairman, go over expectations, and plan for the coming year. If you agreed to serve on a committee in 2023, please make every effort to attend this meeting, especially if you have not served before. FIGHTER VERSE: Our Fighter Verse this week is 2 Chronicles 16:9:
For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him. You have done foolishly in this, for from now on you will have wars.

MISSIONS: On a personal note, one of our teens (who happens to be Lorrie's and my youngest daughter), Ruth Dixon, is going on a mission trip to Jamaica in the middle of February. The team will be doing Bible-quizzing in the public schools there. For more than 20 years, Lorie Scott coached Bible Quiz teams from our church, so many of you are aware of just how life-changing it can be to memorize large chunks of Scripture then be quizzed in friendly competition over what was learned. Ruth would appreciate your prayers and support. Please contact her directly for more information.
If you or someone you know from our church is planning to take a short-term mission trip, please let the church know so that we might pray for you/them and offer our support for the trip. We encourage you to consider an international mission trip as a way to spread the Gospel of Christ which is the power of God unto salvation for all who believe on His name.

BONUS: Take a few moments to visit the literature rack in the foyer this Lord's day. We moved it from the area near the fellowship hall to increase visibility. We also updated the literature to include missionaries for whom we pray as well as several booklets and tracts for your edification.

See you in church!

Grace and peace,

Pastor Greg

GREETINGS, FBC FAMILY AND FRIENDS!
On this last day of 2022, I want to wish you a Happy New Year as we stand on the cusp of 2023. A few years back, I shared with you a list of questions to ask at the New Year or on your birthday. I am once again sharing these questions with you as an attachment to this e-mail. I will also have printed copies available for you tomorrow. These questions come from Dr. Don Whitney and the Center for Biblical Spirituality, a trusted and trustworthy resource. Don Whitney is both a collector of questions and a composer of questions to help Christians grow in the spiritual life. These and other questions are available at this link.

As we gather tomorrow for worship, we will celebrate the Lord's Supper. What a powerful way to usher in the new year! I pray that you have had the opportunity to  engage in some self-examination in preparation for that service according to 1 Corinthians 11:23-34. The starter questions which I have shared before are also attached to this e-mail.

Commune," considering the significance of the Lord's Supper in its past, future, and present attachments. You may choose to meditate on these points:
  1. Past Significance: By faith, let us remember the death of Christ (vss. 24-26) Matt. 26:26-28; Mark 14:22-24; Luke 22:19:14-20
  2. Future Significance: By faith, let us anticipate the return of Christ (vs. 26b) Acts 1:6-11; Rev. 19:11-21; 22:7, 12, 20; 1 Cor. 3:11-13
  3. Present Significance: By faith, let us commune with the living Christ (vss. 27-29) 1 Corinthians 10:16-17
