Greetings, Church Family and Friends!
I hope you are enjoying this beautiful day that the Lord has given us. As you prepare for the Lord's Day tomorrow, may you be filled with adoration for our Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. BRIDGMANS TO THE HOLY LAND: This is also a special week in the life of our church as Kyle and Sue Bridgman will be traveling to the Holy Land for a 10-day tour. Last October, our church family decided to send the Bridgmans to Israel in recognition of Kyle's 25 years of faithful service at First Baptist. If you would like to contribute financially, you may do so by making a designated offering to FBC and marking the check or envelope either "HOLY LAND" (for the trip itself) or to "BRIDGMANS" (personal love gift for incidental expenses). Of course, you can always contribute directly to Kyle and Sue. We are excited for them to make this trip as neither of them have previously been to the Holy Land. THE LORD'S DAY (5/21):

FIGHTER VERSE: Our Fighter Verse this week is Romans 12:20-21: To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Daily Bible reading is one of the leading indicators of spiritual growth and vitality in the Christian's life. MAN KNOWS NOT HIS TIME: This week, the larger Christian community lost two men who made an indelible impression on their denomination, the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). Tim Keller, pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian in NYC, and Harry Reeder, pastor of Briarwood Presbyterian in Birmingham, AL, both served the Lord faithfully and well in their local churches and in the PCA. Keller (age 72) had been battling pancreatic cancer for the last 3 years. In recent years, Keller had begun to embrace more of the "wokism" which has become so prevalent in evangelicalism today. But that does not negate the powerfully positive impact his ministry made on a wide swath of Christians of all perspectives over the course of many years. Reeder (age 75) was killed when the vehicle he was driving rear-ended a stopped dump truck. Less well-known than Keller, Harry Reeder was a mentor to many in his denomination over the years, and he stood staunchly for biblical conservatism as the PCA faced the challenge of liberal voices who were seeking to take the PCA in a leftward direction. Our hearts go out to their families and all those affected by their death of both of these men. [NOTE: For those who may not be aware, the PCA is a denomination formed in 1973 out of the former PCUS (Southern Presbyterians) over growing theological liberalism in that denomination. The PCA took a stand for the inerrancy of Scripture, the deity of Christ, and the Scriptural qualifications for men in the office of elder/pastor. The biblically and theologically conservative PCA has stood in stark contrast over the last half-century to the PCUSA, the larger, theologically liberal, mainline denomination which denies the inerrancy and authority of Scripture.] See you in church! Grace and peace, Pastor Greg

Greetings, Church Family and Friends!
Thanks to all who came out for the National Day of Prayer gathering at the courthouse on Thursday. Around thirty of our community members were in attendance, and approximately one-third of them were representing First Baptist. I love you all so much, and I really appreciate seeing you all come out in support of community prayer events. As you prepare for the Lord's Day tomorrow, please take a few minutes as you read this email to pray for the services tomorrow, to pray for our graduates as we honor them, and to pray for those who have lost loved ones this week. We especially want to express Christian sympathy to Trina and Aaron Reeder on the death of their son, Trevor Dawson. Trevor's services were yesterday afternoon; thank you to all who were in attendance, who brought food, or in other ways supported the family during this difficult time. THE LORD'S DAY (5/7):

QUOTE FOR THE WEEK: "Cling to the divine authority of the Scriptures with a death grip!" - C.H. Spurgeon See you in church! Grace and peace, Pastor Greg GREETINGS, FBC FAMILY AND FRIENDS,
Today we will lay to rest Dixie Thornton who passed away last Friday evening. Services are this morning at Turner Funeral Home with visitation at 10 am and funeral service at 11 am and burial to follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery. We remember Dixie as a faithful servant of Christ, committed to missions and missions education in our church and around the world. We extend Christian sympathy to Tommy and his family as they grieve her passing. MACH 4 Men's Ministry: This evening, MACH 4 will meet at Oak Christian Church at 6 pm for a meal and fellowship. Since it is close to Valentine's Day, men are encouraged to bring their wives for the meal. Please let Barry Kagay know ASAP if you plan to attend at bkkagay@gmail.com so that they can have adequate food prepared. THE LORD'S DAY (2/12):
Super Bowl Sunday. We will have our annual chili cook-off and watch party that evening, Lord willing. Specific times are pending, but those bringing chili for the competition usually need to have them there around 4:00 to allow plenty of time for judging. Soups are also welcome and appreciated, but will not be part of the chili contest. I would also encourage you to bring items for the Living Hope Food Pantry. During the month of February, they would appreciate:

Daily Bible reading is one of the leading indicators of spiritual growth and vitality in the Christian's life. I want to encourage you to read through the Bible, or ... ...LISTEN THROUGH THE BIBLE As I shared last week, we now have access to multiple ways where you can listen to someone read the Bible to you. If you would like to hear the King James Bible dramatized, you can. If you would like to hear Max McLean read the ESV, you can. If you would like to hear David Suchet read the NIV in Oxford accent, you can. The apostle Peter describes the power of God's word this way in 1 Peter 1:22-25 (quoting from Isaiah 40): 22 Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; 24 for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, 25 but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you. BONUS: By now, most of you have heard about what happened at the Grammy Awards last Sunday night. For those who haven't heard, it was basically a musical tribute to Satan. If you want to hear (or read) more about it, I suggest the insightful episode of The Briefing with Al Mohler from last Tuesday. His analysis is spot on as usual. BONUS BONUS: Keith and Kristyn Getty are coming to Midwestern Seminary on Sunday evening, March 26. You likely associate them with songs such as "In Christ Alone" and "The Power of the Cross." They have been a blessing to the church at large, and they are well worth seeing in concert. Tickets are $25 for general admission. For more information, visit this website. See you in church! Grace and peace, Pastor Greg GREETINGS, FBC FAMILY AND FRIENDS,
On this Saturday, take some time to pause, read Scripture, appreciate God's beautiful creation, and prepare you heart for the Lord's Day tomorrow. As we gather with the people of God, we pray that He will bless the moments we have together as we worship Him, come under the Spirit-empowered teaching of Scripture, and then are sent out to love and serve our neighbor with the love of Christ. Please visit our YouTube Channel to see the edited service video. FIGHTER VERSE: Our Fighter Verse this week is 1 Corinthians 1:18:For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. READ THROUGH THE BIBLE The Five-Day Bible Reading Plan is attached to this e-mail for your convenience. You may want to access additional resources to support your reading available at this website. Whether or not you read the Bible through in a year, I encourage you to pick a book of the Bible and commit to reading it straight through, regardless of how long it takes you. Then when you are finished, pick another and do the same thing. I encourage you to read the Bible every day, no matter how much or how little you read. A pastor friend of mine challenged his church to read at least seven verses a day. That takes less than one minute to do. You may not have one hour to read the Bible, but you do have one minute (and you likely have five minutes!). LISTEN THROUGH THE BIBLE One of the miracles of modern technology is that, if you have a computer, a tablet, or a smartphone, you can listen to someone else read the Bible to you. If you would like to hear the King James Bible dramatized, you can. If you would like to hear Max McLean read the ESV, you can. If you would like to hear David Suchet read the NIV in Oxford accent, you can. The point is, there is literally more opportunity now than ever before to listen to the Bible. Many people find this easier or more convenient for any number of reasons. We have this truth about the value of hearing God's Word, that "faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ" (Rom. 10:17). While this is primarily concerned with the preaching of Scripture, it secondarily may be applied to simply hearing the Bible read. However you do it, take the Bible into your life. See you in church! Grace and peace, Pastor Greg GREETINGS, FBC FAMILY AND FRIENDS!

Committee/Ministry Team General Organizational Meeting. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall to organize for 2023. Each committee will meet to elect a new chairman, go over expectations, and plan for the coming year. If you agreed to serve on a committee in 2023, please make every effort to attend this meeting, especially if you have not served before. We will have pizza from Slice & Swirl for all those in attendance. Again, my apologies for needing to reschedule this meeting. Tables will be set up for the following groups to meet. For your convenience, times are suggested to help avoid conflicts, although some couldn't be avoided. Please confer with your other team members to agree on your time to meet. Other ministry teams are welcome to meet at this time, the following are just the ones most likely to need to meet to organize. 4:00 - 5:00 pm

For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ. I encourage you to have a plan to read the Bible and stick with that plan. But if you fall behind, don't be discouraged. Just pick up where you left off and carry on. My main encouragement to you is read the Bible daily and read through each book of the Bible beginning to end, regardless of which Bible books you are reading. BONUS: January is Sanctity of Human Life Month. Since the Supreme Court reversed Roe vs. Wade several months ago, we have seen a number of formerly predictably pro-life states overturn pro-life legislation or pass pro-abortion legislation. Please pray for the pre-born and their mothers. Consider supporting the following pro-life organizations who help to stop abortion, help stop human trafficking, and help adoption happen.
See you in church! Grace and peace, Pastor Greg GREETINGS, FBC FAMILY AND FRIENDS! The New Year came in with much milder temperatures than we had the previous week, along with some much-needed rain, and what a blessing it was from the Lord! Thanks especially to all those who came out to Sunset Home for the vesper service. Eleven of our members joined with six residents for a time of prayer, praise, and devotion. it was our first time back since December 2019 (pre-COVID). The residents really seemed to appreciate us being there!
Right at the start, let me mention that the Committee/Ministry Team General Organizational Meeting scheduled for this Sunday is postponed to Sunday, January 15. I deeply apologize for any inconvenience, but earlier this week, I became aware of a direct conflict in my schedule for January 8. So on January 15, we will meet in the Fellowship Hall to organize for 2023. Each committee will meet to elect a new chairman, go over expectations, and plan for the coming year. If you agreed to serve on a committee in 2023, please make every effort to attend this meeting, especially if you have not served before. MISSIONS: On a personal note, one of our teens (who happens to be Lorrie's and my youngest daughter), Ruth Dixon, is going on a mission trip to Jamaica in the middle of February. The team will be doing Bible-quizzing in the public schools there. For more than 20 years, Lorie Scott coached Bible Quiz teams from our church, so many of you are aware of just how life-changing it can be to memorize large chunks of Scripture then be quizzed in friendly competition over what was learned. Ruth would appreciate your prayers and support. Please contact her directly for more information. If you or someone you know from our church is planning to take a short-term mission trip, please let the church know so that we might pray for you/them and offer our support for the trip. We encourage you to consider an international mission trip as a way to spread the Gospel of Christ which is the power of God unto salvation for all who believe on His name. BONUS: Take a few moments to visit the literature rack in the foyer this Lord's day. We moved it from the area near the fellowship hall to increase visibility. We also updated the literature to include missionaries for whom we pray as well as several booklets and tracts for your edification. See you in church! On this last day of 2022, I want to wish you a Happy New Year as we stand on the cusp of 2023. A few years back, I shared with you a list of questions to ask at the New Year or on your birthday. I am once again sharing these questions with you as an attachment to this e-mail. I will also have printed copies available for you tomorrow. These questions come from Dr. Don Whitney and the Center for Biblical Spirituality, a trusted and trustworthy resource. Don Whitney is both a collector of questions and a composer of questions to help Christians grow in the spiritual life. These and other questions are available at this link. As we gather tomorrow for worship, we will celebrate the Lord's Supper. What a powerful way to usher in the new year! I pray that you have had the opportunity to engage in some self-examination in preparation for that service according to 1 Corinthians 11:23-34. The starter questions which I have shared before are also attached to this e-mail. THE LORD'S DAY (1/1/23):
